Silver Certificate, Series of 1899

United States Silver Certificates were issued by the federal government in the late 1800s. The certificate could be redeemed for a specified amount of silver. In the 1860s the United States was one of the top producers of silver in the world.

The center of the back of the bill reads – “This certificate is receivable for customs, taxes and all public dues, and when so received may be reissued.”
